// FACILITATING CULTURE BUILDING & MANAGEMENT PROCESS FLOW
CLIENT: McDonalds
BRANDING & IDENTITY | INNOVATIONS PLATFORM | CREW EMPOWERMENT TOOL
“More than just principles and stronger than attitude… our values don’t just bind us, they empower and define us.”
Values define who we are, inspiring us to grow strong as individuals and together as teams… and although a well-defined value set can create awareness, it’s not until we live, breathe and share the experience that we can then create a sense of culture.
Elegant and simple in its user experience, eVALUE8 provides on-demand business and cultural insights across any number of McDonalds stores.
While McDonalds is already renowned as one of the most lean, efficient and successful organisations thanks to its process-driven nature, management sought to enhance the process with real-time metrics, effective reporting and engagement value aligned behaviours to assist the decision making and team leadership of their management staff (as well as further strengthening the morale and team culture all staff members).
But, how do you measure the unmeasurable and quantify something as abstract as a sense of culture?
And how do you – in a practical and actionable sense – incorporate values into everything that you do?
Noop was engaged to create an engagement and innovations platform/crew empowerment tool that would provide appropriate metrics and insight at a personal, store and organisation wide level.
In workshopping the scope of the requirements and understanding with the key management team, we deemed that the platform should:
- Facilitate engagement within a time constraint of under 5 minutes per day (lean methodology, avoiding waste in the process);
- Provide key insight into performance and trends at a store and complete organisational level;
- Condense complex metrics into a simple and beautiful interface design (thus creating a custom and easy to use universal application);
- Provide value tracking, facilitating the tracking of alignment to each company values across the store and organisation as a whole; and
- Track goals and actions, easily allowing goals and actions to be added and tracked as part of development and regularly working toward achieving outcomes.
In addition, the platform needed to:
- Allow recognition to be given and received to aid in ongoing development of culture and morale;
- Provide Operations Tracking, giving key aggregated McDonalds performance metrics on demand; and
- Facilitate open communications via an aggregated home feed that would show the happenings relevant to the logged in user, around the store.
With each module to be carefully considered and tailor made (appropriate to the way that the crew works and the way that the app will be used in-store), the idea of eVALUE8 was born.
Approach
From the start, Noop sought to create “the app that they want to use”; completely divorced from stereotypical corporate apps that are uninspiring, unintuitive, challenging to use and require ongoing training.
Utilising Noop’s unique Business Improvement approach (BPM), the development and ideation process started with a discovery to share in the vision, clearly understand reporting requirements and understand the context of interactions in store (including how all of this could be captured). Each process was mapped to clearly identify outlining triggers, input and outputs and optimised.
Identity Definition
eVALUE8 is a play on the word evaluate. It is the amalgamation of the prefix “e”, the words “evaluate” , “values” and the symbol for infinity. The infinity symbol is drawn vertically allowing the pronunciation “eight” or “ate”. Tracing the 8 symbol with a slight colour variation to highlight the letter “S”, produces the word “VALUES” in uppercase. It is widely accepted that a lowercase “e” means “electronic”, in modern digital applications. The infinity symbol is used to show the coming together of core values and self evaluation as an infinite process of self improvement.
